Dear Sister,

Untitled design (3)

Lately, I haven’t been so enthusiastic with beauty and fashion related stuff. My family is currently in a tough situation because of our eldest sibling. It took me a while to think whether or not share what we’re going through. But I realized why not tell the world how much I love my family.

Our eldest sister is like my second mom, she’s the very first person that knows my life’s whereabouts. We may be miles apart but thanks to the latest technologies, loved-ones are just a dial and a video call away.

Writing this is very difficult for me. This is for my sister Diane, she is our eldest sibling amongst us four. Born and raised in the Philippines. A 40 year-old single mother of three. Her oldest daughter is 17, her second daughter is 5 and her youngest son just turned 3.

On March of 2015, my sister was diagnosed with stage IIIB Cervical cancer. She was advised to start her treatment as soon as possible. Radiation and Chemotherapy were initiated. After which, she was then told to finish the treatment with Brachytherapy. Since we live in a small town, not all treatments are available so we had to take her to a different city from another island. She was a fighter and was able to complete her treatment.

Since then, she was able to live a normal and happy life with her kids, family and friends. Though she wasn’t cancer free, she was advised to continue her regular check-up and watch her food intake or diet.

On March of 2017, she felt some abnormalities in her body. Lymph nodes in her neck, body pain and bones hurt, stomach pain when she eats, fatigue and lack of appetite. Immediately, she was brought to her medical care provider and an ultrasound and X-ray were performed. It turned out that the lymph nodes in her neck is not a good sign related to her cancer. This time, 25 sessions of radiation was required. Unfortunately, due to her health condition, she was only able to do 10 sessions and didn’t complete her radiation treatment.

She’s confined in the hospital for a couple of weeks now. The doctor said that the cancer has spread to her liver and bones. Her internal organs are also affected badly.

But despite of her condition, my sister is a fighter and tried so hard to combat her illness to be able to take care of her kids and witness them grow. She missed a lot of school activities due to her condition and I know that she would love to get up and makeup for the days that she missed with her kids.

Currently, all we have is faith, hope and love for my sister Diane. Prayers from everyone, warm support and inspiring messages kept us going.

I cannot understand why cancer exists… It’s everywhere now! It ruins people’s lives.

Since I found out about my sister’s diagnosis, I’ve been wanting to share what she’s going through to make people aware that regular doctor’s visit is very important as well as share awareness about Cervical Cancer.

Because of this, it opened my eyes and have been actively participating in some charity works held at our workplace to raise funds. Recently, a good samaritan asked me to do the same for my sister and maybe raise some funds to be able to support the hospital bills and be able to provide the medical needs for my sister’s treatment.

Extending her life may it be a day, two or hopefully years will definitely be the best gift that we’ll receive.

I was referred to share this story through GoFundMe to hold a fundraising campaign and hopefully my prayers for my sister will be answered.

Lessons learned: Don’t take life for granted. Go see a doctor regularly and listen to what they say because this is for our own benefit!

Thank you all for listening, it means a lot to me!

I have a close friend whose mother is dealing with cancer also. She is also struggling and feeling down while trying to be as positive as she can to help. Sending my prayers out to your sister and your whole family, especially her children😔 it’s a really touch situation to go through and you have to be strong but you all will get through this difficult time, and I’m sure she will appreciate all your love and care💖
