IPSY vs PLAY

fotorcreated_fotor

It wasn’t my intention to do a “battle of the monthly subscription” post, however since I was very disappointed with one of the subscription bag that I got, I’ve decided to do a comparison instead.

Now let’s begin!

ipsy

I will start with my IPSY Glam Bag (September). I actually received this pretty early this month but since I got stuck with something more important than the Glam Bag, I haven’t touched them until now.

IPSY’s theme for the month of September is GLAMAZON. Why? I have NO idea! 😛

Now, let’s talk about the bag. I really like this bag, probably my second favorite of all the Glam Bags that I received since day 1.

How about what’s inside the bag?

Here are the goodies that I received. What do you think?

  1. Dr.G Daily Safe BB in Fair – This is our everything. Lightweight and oh-so-blendable—it smooths, hydrates and covers blemishes while protecting skin from the sun. Check and all the checks.

  2. IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara in Super Black – It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s an amazing mascara formulated with peptides and proteins for extreme volume and unbeatable length.

  3. Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum – Zen relaxation for the face. Incredibly soothing, it keeps skin hydrated for a full 24 hours (for reals)—all the way through shavasana.

  4. Living Proof Perfect hair Day (PhD) 5-in-1 Styling Treatment – Anyone can get a PhD (Perfect hair Day), thanks to this styling treatment that smooths, volumizes, conditions, strengthens and polishes. #SmartStuff

  5. Pixi by Petra Mattelustre Lipstick in Rose Naturelle – My fair lady. Long-lasting and lustrous, this vintage rose shade suits everyone perfectly. Fit for a queen. Or a Dowager Countess.

Let’s take a closer look on a couple of items in this bag that caught my attention.

I’ve heard so many great things about IT Cosmetics but most products that I’ve tried from them especially their mascara’s were all disappointing. The wand on this mascara looked depressing to me but we’ll see! Hopefully I will be impressed this time.

Pixi by Petra on the other hand are amazing! I received a few sample products from them too and they were all great! This lipstick feels so smooth, buttery and pigmented and the shade just screams fall to me which I like.

play

Ok, it’s Play by Sephora’s turn!

I really thought my September Play by Sephora bag got lost in the mail or was stolen. The reason I said that it’s because the confirmation email said it got “delivered” but then few days and even weeks had passed and still nothing. Luckily, my prayers and patience paid off and I got it! HAHA 🙂

Well, enough with the chat and let’s proceed.

Since it was a gorgeous day when I decided to open my beauty bags, I thought I’ll shoot outside with a natural light for a change (hint hint – new background).

At first glance, what do you guys think?

The items in my bag are as follows:

  1. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Perfector – An easy-to-use solution that provides up to one week of more shiny, vibrant, manageable hair overnight, with benefits that last through five shampoos.

  2. Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation – An oil-free moisturizer with a multi-fruit AHA complex to even the skintone and smooth the skin’s texture.

  3. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – A liquid eyeliner with an innovative brush tip for effortless, precise application.

  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel – A clear gel for all hair colors that sets, defines, and holds brows in place all day.

  5. SEPHORA COLLECTION Rouge Shine Lipstick – A moisturizing lipstick with a rich, glossy shine.

  6. Atelier Cologne Collection Azur – Sud Magnolia – Sud Magnolia is a floral and fresh fragrance with notes of magnolia from Louisiana, bitter orange from Seville, and atlas cedarwood from Morocco. The sharp tang of citrus blooms into a grand floral celebration. The woody drydown is reminiscent of antebellum elegance and nights of warm abandon.

Let’s take a closer look on some of the items in this bag!

I get really excited when I see a lipstick in general, may it be full size or sample sizes I’m happy with it. Some may not be great but I still want them all. This Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in the shade LOVE SPELL is so smooth (I tried it on after I swatched them), feels lightweight and it’s a little sheer but buildable which is good. It’s not matte but not too shiny either. So far, so good!

This Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel is my least favorite in this bag. Why? because I don’t use any brow products at all, so I felt like it’s a waste. BUT! I’ve always wanted to try any brow products though so maybe just for the sake of it I’ll use them. 🙂

Finally!! I’ve been wanting to try this Kat Von D Tattoo Liner since forever but I just didn’t want to purchase them and might not even like it. I’ve heard most eyeliner lovers out there raved about this Kat Von D liner so I hope I will like it too. I did try them briefly and the brush tip applicator is so smooth and flexible which I’m not used to. It creates a super fine line or even thicker or bolder line if desired. I guess I need more practice and maybe I will get used to it.

Just a quick shout out to Living Proof! I am not sure how but it looks like you knew how badly my hair needs some TLC. I cannot wait to dive into these tube of goodness and hopefully it will give back some life to my dying hair. LOL. If you’ve noticed, I got them from my IPSY Glam Bag and Play by Sephora bag.

Verdict!

I’ve been very disappointed with IPSY for the past few months so I have decided to cancel them next month. I kept telling myself to give them one more chance but I guess several chances is more than enough. I continue to receive more and more disappointing products each month. I’ve changed my options several times but I still kept getting the same “crappy” items with the exception of the bag itself.. Infact, I opt out the skin care options and I’m still getting them. One last bag for the month of October and then it’s time to bid goodbye!

Play by Sephora so far has been very impressive! For the same price of $10.00 per month and free shipping, the products are way better than IPSY. I get products that I’m familiar with, products that I know are great plus a cutie little fragrance bonus each month so you are basically getting six items plus the bag for only $10 a month. I really hope that Sephora will continue to wow me and I cannot wait to see my November’s Play bag!

So, prior to reading the entire post. Did you guys guess which bag is winning? 🙂

Thank you so much for dropping by and I really hope I will be able to get back on track and post more than usual as I have soooo much to share.

until

  1. Aww too bad you didn’t really like your Ipsy bag. They can be so hit/miss! I canceled for a while last year, then resubbed. I have a feeling I’ll probably end up canceling again sometime…I totally hear you on them sending stuff you are not interested in! SO MUCH HAIR STUFF (in my case). Jeez!

The Sephora Play bag was very cool!

Yes, there were some products that I received that I actually loved. But for over a year of getting products from them, I would say less than 10 products were great while the rest are 👎🏻. The bags though were cute! Hehe and yup! So happy with Sephora.. Hope they won’t turn into IPSY nightmare.. Haha
